As a woman who is always on the go, it can be difficult to find the time to take care of ourselves amidst fully-packed schedules and managing our households. However, neglecting proper hand and foot care can lead to yellowing nails, discomfort and even pain - which makes it essential to prioritize self-care. We get that life gets in the way, and we may not all have the time for a refresh manicure and pedicure every month - but there are simple steps you can take in between to maintain hand and foot health.

Moisturize

Your hands and feet are exposed to the elements daily, and the constant exposure can make them dry and chapped - especially when you’re always on the go. It is important to moisturize them regularly to keep them soft and prevent dryness and cracking. Look for moisturizers that contain natural ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, or beeswax, as they are more gentle and nourishing for the skin. Slather on a layer before bed and let it soak into your skin overnight for maximum benefits.

Protect

The skin on your hands and feet are sensitive, and when exposed to sunlight, it can lead to age spots and wrinkles. Therefore, it is essential to protect your hands and feet from the sun when you go out. Opt for shoes with good support, and good quality socks that cover your feet whenever possible, and don't forget to apply sunscreen to any exposed skin for extra protection.

Wear comfortable shoes

Walking around in high heels or uncomfortable shoes all day can cause long-term damage to your feet and lead to pain and discomfort. Look for shoes that provide good arch support and enough space for your toes to breathe. Feet aching after a long day? Try wearing insoles to pad and protect your feet.

Keep your nails trimmed

Regularly trimming your nails can help avoid ingrown nails and other nail problems. Use a good quality nail clipper and file, and follow the natural curve of the nail when shaping them. Avoid cutting them too short and clean them thoroughly after trimming.

Soak your feet

After a long day of running around, soak your feet in warm water for 10-15 minutes. This helps reduce swelling and soreness, giving some respite to your feet. For added relaxation, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the soak, close your eyes and give yourself a mini at-home spa session.
