From over-exfoliation to picking pimples…Here are some skincare mistakes you might be making

Apart from going for regular facials (we’re fans of our rejuvenate facial!) and sticking diligently to our skincare routines, there’s also the small daily habits that add up to achieving that flawless dewy glow. Quite often, the key to good skin lies in nailing the basics right too so as to not undo the hard work from treatments and routines.

In this list, you can find some facial faux pas you might find yourself guilty of.

Over or under-exfoliation

As tempting as it is to put on that clay mask every night or scrub your face after your morning workout, too much of anything is never great! Exfoliating products might be too drying if used too often, so it might be a good idea to check with your beauty expert on what their recommendation is for your particular products. Exfoliating too often affects your skin texture, causing it to feel irritated, and potentially peel or flake. On the other hand, not exfoliating at all is also not ideal as it allows dirt to build on your skin surface and increases chances of clogged pores and other unsightly bumps.

Touching your face habitually throughout the day

How often do you absentmindedly rest your face in your hands, with elbows propped up on the table for maximum #wfh comfort? Additionally, do you remember the last time you wiped your phone screen? Many of us are guilty of touching our hands after touching other surfaces that build up dirt and germs. Our fingertips contain tons of germs from the amount of surfaces it comes into contact with in a single day, and by constantly touching your face we directly transfer pollutants onto our face.

Not applying sunscreen diligently

Living in tropical Singapore, there’s no escaping the sun. Direct sun exposure damages your skin because of its harmful UV rays. Sunscreen lotion protects your skin from those very culprits. Applying them on every day without fear is important as sunscreen reduces the long-term visible damages to your skin and even the risk of skin cancer.

Hydrate your skin with a regular daily moisturiser

If you have the habit of only moisturising at night, it’s time you add on a day equivalent. Moisturiser acts as a protective barrier between your skin and the atmosphere. It helps to replenish moisture loss and guards it from dryness.

Drink more water

Hydration does wonders to your face and most people don’t even realise it. Across all the different pathways we take to achieve wonderful skin, water is the single most important unit. Yet, we tend to neglect drinking up amidst our busy lives or find ourselves constantly feeding alternate thirst cravings: like coffee, that juice, or that glass of wine with your other busy momma friends keen to unwind from a busy week. Commit to at least 7-9 glasses a day. If you are out a lot, start carrying a big bottle of water with you and make sure you are taking gulps every other hour.

If you’re in the mood to set 2022 resolutions, we hope these 5 give some ideas. And if you’re looking for new routines to commit to - have you seen the refresh subscription?
